Our Clubhouse is on the campus of the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown. The Masonic Village & Elizabethtown Model Railroad Club was organized in 1997 and hosted its first open house in 1998. As we approach our 30th Anniversary we have seen the club grow in size from a few founding members and a small number of operating layouts to more than 50 members and seven operating layouts. Our open house season begins in October each year with special events in December and new layout features each year.
The Masonic Village & Elizabethtown Model Railroad Club is open to residents and non-residents alike. The members bring a variety of skills and interests that make the club a vibrant organization for creating and maintaining a complex model railroad environment. Some members have worked for the railroads in the area while others have worked in other industries over the years. All together the members bring many skills, including electronics, woodworking, and the mechanical skills necessary for keeping the trains running.
The number of operating layouts has expanded to seven gauges over the years ranging from the smallest, “Z” Gauge, to the largest “G” gauge and everything in between. The trains on the Standard gauge loop are as much as 100 years old. The “S” Gauge is mostly American Flyer and it continues to grow. The HO scale operating layout has grown in complexity and sophistication with addition of digital controls and lighting. The “N” scale layout has expanded in complexity as well and lastly the “O” scale layout has over 1600 feet of track and two fully automated loops in addition to a complete yard ladder.
